Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo sing the first half

Wicked: The Soundtrack is set to release to coincide with the release of the Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo-directed film on November 22nd. However, the film itself has divided the famous musical into two parts, with the second part scheduled to be released earlier than expected in November 2025, followed by the accompanying soundtrack. Wicked: The Soundtrack puts a bookmark in the musical narrative right after “Defying Gravity.”

The soundtrack contains the first 11 songs of the musical, starting with the opening number “No One Mourns the Wicked”. Grande and Erivo appear throughout the soundtrack as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, with additional appearances from cast members Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz.

The original soundtrack, conducted by Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, includes a total of 19 songs. The eight that follow “Defying Gravity” will appear on the soundtrack Wicked: Part Twoincluding “No Good Deed” and “For Good”. The official announcement of the soundtrack coincides with the public presale of tickets for the film. Early Access viewings begin November 20th.

In 2019, Grande shared the Zach Sang Show about her memories of listening to the soundtrack and dreaming of somehow becoming a part of it. “I would do anything. “I stood outside the producer's studio every morning with coffee, waiting for them to acknowledge me – and begging them to sing 'Defying Gravity' for them,” she said.

At the time, she dreamed of playing Elphaba, but the glittery pink witch Glinda suits her just as well. She said at the time that she would be happy to be part of the musical on stage or in the cinema, whatever it took to take part. “I love this musical so much. Whenever I'm nervous about something, I listen to the music from the front and back EvilGrande shared, explaining that it reminded her of her childhood. “Growing up, I was 10 years old and driving in the car with my mom listening to it front to back and screaming in the passenger seat.”

On trend

She added: “Meeting Kristin backstage for the first time as a little girl was one of the most exciting moments of my life. She gave me shower gel with glitter in it and I dipped my pinky in it every day when I used it in the shower because I never wanted it to run out. I loved these women. I still do that. I mean, Kristin texts me. For example, I'm friends with Kristin Chenoweth. This is the coolest thing I’ve ever done.”
