What we know about the planned entertainment resort next to the A's baseball stadium

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Tropicana Las Vegas imploded Wednesday morning, sending the iconic Strip casino farewell with a Vegas-style finale. Now attention turns to the next steps for the site.

We already know the plans for a 9-acre Major League Baseball stadium on the 35-acre property – the future home of the Oakland Athletics. But what is the plan for the remaining country?

What we know about the A's baseball stadium construction

Bally's Corporation has previously stated that they plan to connect the stadium to a new casino and resort, but little information has been publicly disclosed.

According to Bally's Corporation CEO Soo Kim, the first master plans have been submitted for the remaining acres.

“We have a plan that is up to 3,000 rooms,” Kim said.

He said construction on the stadium should begin in the spring of 2025 and renderings for the proposed resort could follow shortly thereafter as the plans move through the approval process in Clark County.

“When we submitted the master plan, I think it was more of a schematic,” Kim said. “I don’t know if it takes (rendering) months or what, but it hasn’t been too long.”

Will the resort have a theme?

Yes.

But it is still too early to say what this topic will be.

Sharing the site with a baseball stadium already makes for a suspected sports-themed resort, and Kim said Bally's World of Sports is a potential theme, but nothing has been decided yet.

Kim said entertainment districts surrounding sports stadiums in other cities such as Dallas and Atlanta are becoming increasingly popular and appealing to foot traffic. Since the stadium is located on the Las Vegas Strip, this entertainment district is already integrated.

Phase 1 of stadium construction is expected to be completed in spring 2028, just in time for baseball.
