After leaving the Golden State Warriors to join the Dallas Mavericks in free agency this summer, Klay Thompson is not being treated kindly on the court by one of his former teammates.

Warriors forward Draymond Green told ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk that when they face the Mavs this season, he plans to treat Thompson the same way he treats other opponents he has a close personal relationship with, like for example the star of the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James.

“I’m going to run through his chest,” Green said. “Because I always ran through my older brother’s chest when we played. There's always this public disdain for me and Bron's brotherhood. I try to kill him (on the court) more than anyone else. I'll turn it off. And vice versa. That means what it is. I’m more inclined to run through his chest than Kyrie (Irving).”

Thompson will get his first taste of facing his former team when the Mavs visit Chase Center to take on the Warriors on November 12th. Star point guard Stephen Curry said he's looking forward to the reception his longtime splash brother will receive from the home crowd, but he still shares a similar sentiment to Green.

“You're going to have the ceremony… and I'm going to be fully engaged and present and making sure you celebrate him the way he's supposed to,” Curry told Youngmisuk. “And then there’s war. That’s how we’re all built.”

Thompson, Green and Curry combined to win four NBA championships during their 12 years as teammates at Golden State. Unfortunately, Thompson was unable to leave the team on good terms, as he dropped out of the rotation for the 2023-24 season and appeared visibly frustrated at times throughout the year.

Still, Green insists that the bond between the three is unbreakable and that Thompson's decision to join a new team has not caused animosity.

“It’s a happy divorce when there is a divorce,” Green said. “Many divorces are bad. This is not one of them. I don't even call it a divorce. It's just the next chapter in our lives. It's a chance for me and Steph to see what we can do together.”
