Dodgers' Max Muncy highlights Padres' style of play before NLDS Game 3

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres prepare for the deciding Game 3 of the National League Division Series on Tuesday night.

The teams enter the duel with one game each tied, with Game 3 being a clear swing game in the series. If the Dodgers want to keep their season alive, they need to win at least one of their next two games in San Diego.

After all the on-field drama in Game 2 and all the off-field drama on Monday, teams are finally ready to just play baseball on Tuesday. But that doesn't mean the drama is over.

On Tuesday, Padres manager Mike Shildt appeared to take a not-so-subtle dig at Dodgers manager Dave Roberts over the situation in which Manny Machado threw a baseball at him in the dugout.

Then Max Muncy spoke to reporters and had some good words about the Padres' style of play.

Muncy was asked if the Padres were trying to get under the skin of their opponents. Muncy believes it's just part of her game. Here is his full answer:

“I don't know if it's about leveling the playing field, but I think that's definitely part of their game: they try – like I said, they play on the emotions.

“The atmosphere here plays out your emotions. And we've seen that in recent years, even in regular season games. Just something as simple as a single and you see the guy throw the bat 30 feet in the air, it really gets the crowd going here.

“That's kind of part of their game: They try to get under your skin and bring out the emotions and make you do something you don't normally do.

“And for example, if you’re a pitcher and you see a guy doing that. And suddenly you want to throw harder and now you're missing balls right over the plate. And then her boys do the damage.

“Of course that’s easier said than done, but you can’t let that happen.”

Muncy seems to think that much of what the Padres do is aimed at getting under their opponent's skin. However, Muncy also knows that the Dodgers only have to worry about themselves and not let the Padres influence how they play this crucial Game 3.

With all the drama off the field, both teams probably just want to get on the field and start playing. Ultimately, whichever team appears on the field will move on to the NLCS later this week.
