The Warriors' trade acquisition from the Sixers results in Lights-Out vs. Kings

Buddy Hield's preseason debut with the Golden State Warriors probably didn't go as well as he hoped. In his first appearance against the Los Angeles Clippers, Hield only shot 28 percent from the field. He finished the game with five points in 17 minutes.

The second preseason game against the Sacramento Kings was a different story.

The former Philadelphia 76ers sharpshooter was completely out of action on Wednesday evening. When he was off the bench for 19 minutes, Hield attempted nine shots from the field, seven of them from long range.

Hield was nearly perfect, hitting all but one of his shots for 22 points to lead the Warriors.

Considering that preseason serves as a first impression for players in new situations, it's safe to say the Warriors have plenty to be positive on the Hield front so far.

During the offseason, Hield entered the free agency market as an unrestricted free agent. He had just completed a short stint with the Sixers.

Back in February, Hield was Philadelphia's big acquisition at the trade deadline. After a final 52-game run with the Indiana Pacers, Hield was traded to the Sixers for a final 32-game stretch to finish the regular season.

With the Sixers, Hield scored 12 points per game while shooting 39 percent from three. His first chance to participate in the playoffs came in the 2024 postseason. Hield appeared in four of the Sixers' six playoff games. His playing time decreased significantly.

Although he had a small impact on the series, Hield ended his run with the Sixers on a high note, almost achieving hero status in Game 6 when he caught fire from the field when the Sixers' backs were against the wall.

But after a first-round loss, Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey was honest about the situation. While he wouldn't rule out a possible return of Hield to the Sixers, all signs pointed to both parties parting ways.

Hield eventually re-signed with the Sixers in free agency, but had no intention of returning. Instead, the Sixers traded Hield to the Golden State Warriors. The deal ultimately marked the first six-team trade in the league.

The veteran sharpshooter reportedly received a four-year, $37.7 million contract. After stints in New Orleans, Sacramento, Indiana and Philadelphia, Hield hopes to find a long-term spot in Golden State.
