British YouTuber arrested over rape allegations on Perth show

They also said Barrientos was a flight risk because he had access to millions of dollars and financial support, was from the UK and had no other connection to WA, and that further charges could be laid.

Barrientos' defense attorney, Seamus Rafferty, sought an order suppressing the publication of his client's name, saying it would jeopardize his right to a fair trial.

However, the journalists in court rejected this request and no orders were issued.

Rafferty said his client should be treated the same as any other defendant despite his status, and there was a possibility Barrientos would remain in custody for two years pending trial if he was not granted bail.

He argued that the complainant's credibility was being questioned because she had called her friend at 5.30am the morning after the alleged crime and had not mentioned what had happened, and that the prosecution's arguments were not as convincing as they claimed .

Rafferty suggested police take Barrientos' passport and order a $100,000 personal bond and a $100,000 surety signed by someone in Perth.

However, prosecutors argued that bail conditions should also include access to social media of any kind – which Rafferty called unrealistic but suggested it was possible to ban him from discussing the case online.

The matter has been adjourned until Thursday afternoon while Judge Tanya Watt considers submissions, but a decision on bail may not be made until Friday morning.
