England set records against Pakistan on the fourth day of the opening Test in Multan. Yorkshire duo Harry Brook (317) and Joe Root (262) topped England's mammoth total of 823/7. Here's a recap of the day's key milestones.

Brook goes down in the history books

6 England manage to score three centuries in Test cricket, with Brook becoming his sixth and first since Graham Gooch in 1990. 317 is the fifth highest individual score for England in Tests and the fourth highest blow against Pakistan.

310 balls Brooks' shot at 300 makes it the second-fastest triple century, only behind Virender Sehwag's 278-ball attempt against South Africa in Chennai. He needed 118 balls for his first block of 100 runs, 127 for the next 100 runs and just 65 balls to go from 200 to 300.

5 Brook became the fifth player to score a triple century batting at number 5 or below. The only player to score more was Michael Clarke, who scored an unbeaten 329 against India in Sydney in 2012. The previous highest score for an England player batting number 5 or lower was Director 'Tip' Foster's 287 on debut against Australia in 1903.

Root Brook Record Partnership

454 The stand of 454 is the fourth highest partnership for any wicket in Tests; the highest ever for the fourth wicket or below; the highest for England and the highest against Pakistan for any wicket. The only other pair to score 400+ for England in Tests were Peter May and Colin Cowdrey, who scored 411 against the West Indies at Edgbaston in 1957.

3 There are cases where two batters scored more than 250 runs in the same innings. Gary Sobers (365*) and Conard Hunte (260) against Pakistan in Kingston in 1958 were the first pair to do this, followed 48 years later in 2006 at Colombo SSC by Mahela Jayawardene (374) and Kumar Sangakkara (287). was imitated against South Africa.

2 Root and Brook became the second England pair to score two centuries in the same innings, after Graeme Fowler (201) and Mike Gatting (207) against India in Chennai in 1985.

5 Countries where Root scored a double hundred – only Kumar Sangakkara and Younis Khan have scored in more host countries with six points each, while Brian Lara has also scored in five different host countries. Root also became the first non-Asian player to score two centuries in India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

25.95 Percentage of runs scored by Root in boundaries – he hit 17 fours in a total of 262. In the innings for which boundary hit details are available, Root's percentage of 25.95 is the second lowest of any player to score 200+. The only one with a lower boundary percentage is Grant Flower, who scored 50 of his unbeaten 201 runs (11 x 4 and 1 x 6) against Pakistan in Harare in 1995.

England is piling up misery

4 Examples of a team scoring more than 800 points. The first two of these were timeless Tests and the last such instance occurred when Sri Lanka scored RPS 952/6 against India at Colombo in 1997.

The highest total for England remains 903/7 against Australia at the Oval in 1938, while the previous highest against Pakistan was 790/3 declared by West Indies at Kingston in 1958.

267 With 267 goals conceded, Pakistan has the second-highest lead of a team that scored more than 500 in the first innings. The only team to concede more goals was India at the Colombo RPS in 1997 when Sri Lanka responded with 952/6 Dec. to their 537/8 Dec – a lead of 415 in the first innings.
