Anderson Cooper was hit by debris while covering Hurricane Milton on CNN

CNN reporter Anderson Cooper was struck by a piece of flying debris Wednesday evening as the network's star broadcaster covered the development of Hurricane Milton on the ground in storm-battered Florida.

Footage from Cooper's reporting (below) shows the 57-year-old running through strong winds and heavy rain in Bradenton, Florida, before a square piece of white debris hurtles through the air and hits him in the chest.

“Woah,” Cooper says in the footage, pausing to compose himself before turning back to the camera as the waters of the Manatee River begin to rise in the area around him. “Okay, that wasn’t good. We’ll probably go in soon.”

Shortly afterwards, host Kaitlan Collins told the audience about Cooper's condition.

“I would like to note to all viewers, who are of course very concerned about all of our correspondents and anchors on site, that Anderson is doing well,” Collins said from her studio desk.

Weekly entertainment has contacted a Cooper representative for further information.

Although not in the same location, Cooper's colleague Boris Sanchez also reported on Hurricane Milton from Tampa, Florida, where he and his team captured footage on Wednesday of a group of people – including a small child – gathering on the shores of the city , as the hurricane prepared to make landfall.

Cooper's incident marks the second critical moment for a network reporter in recent days, as CNN's Jim Sciutto was forced to take cover in Israel on Oct. 1 when Iranian missile fire struck dangerously close to where he and his team were stationed.

“Oh God. Okay, guys, we need to get off the roof. These are coming down right next to us,” Sciutto said in a video from the scene. “They’re coming down, one barely…we have to go in.”
