WWU student dies after apparent fall from dorm

Update: On Thursday, October 10, at 1 p.m., Western announced that a second student was found dead on campus in another residence hall. The president said there appeared to be no connection between the deaths.

A Western Washington University student died last night after an apparent fall from an on-campus residential building, the university confirmed Thursday, Oct. 10.

Law enforcement is investigating the incident, which occurred at Nash Hall at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, and believes there is no evidence of crime or danger to the public. Western said in a news release that the student's family has been notified.

“It breaks my heart to learn that we have lost one of our students,” President Sabah Randhawa said in the release.

“On behalf of the WWU community, our thoughts are with the students’ families, friends and classmates. We understand that this message is difficult to understand and we encourage anyone who needs support to utilize the resources provided by the university,” Randhawa said.

Students can seek support 24 hours a day from the WWU Counseling and Wellness Center at 360-650-3164. Employees can access assistance through the Employee Assistance Program at 877-313-4455.
