SBF FTX Lieutenant Ryan Salame adds prison stint to his LinkedIn resume

FTX cryptocurrency scammer's top lieutenant Sam Bankman-Fried poked fun at the difficult time ahead with a lighthearted post on LinkedIn.

Ryan Salame, who formerly served as co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets, will begin a nearly eight-year prison sentence Friday for making tens of millions of dollars in illegal campaign contributions to support Bankman-Fried's political machinations.

“I am pleased to announce that I am starting a new position as an inmate at FCI Cumberland!” Salame wrote on the social networking site Wednesday.

FCI Cumberland is a medium-security federal prison for male offenders in Maryland, “with an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp,” according to its website.

A total of 1,001 inmates are housed at both locations.

Salame did not cooperate in the federal trial against Bankman-Fried, despite providing authorities with nearly 600,000 pages of documents.

In particular, he alerted authorities in November 2022 that FTX customer funds were being secretly transferred to “cover financial losses” at Bankman-Fried’s trading company Alameda Research.

Still, Salame received a prison sentence that was harsher than the punishment sought by prosecutors after pleading guilty to one count of conspiring to make unlawful political donations and one count of conspiring to operate an unlicensed money transfer business.

He also had to forfeit more than $1.5 billion as part of the plea deal, although prosecutors agreed to exclude $6 million, two Massachusetts properties and a 2021 Porsche to meet the conditions.

Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison earlier this year for stealing $8 billion from FTX customers.
