James Maxwell Lohr – The MadRapp recorder

James Maxwell Lohr, 74, of Brightwood, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at his home. He was born on July 9, 1950 to the late Homer Maxwell Lohr and Frances Tatum Lohr.

Jim retired from C & P Telephone Company/Bell Atlantic/Verizon after 44 years of service.

He enjoyed dancing, attending parties and social events, and eating out. Jim never met a stranger. He was a lifelong farmer and loved raising livestock. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and teacher. Jim took pride in providing for his family.

Even after his retirement, he didn't stop working and worked his way up until the end.

He served on the Madison Board of Zoning Appeals and was a member of the Madison Young Farmers.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Lawson Lohr; daughters Megan McHale and husband Danny and Ashley Lohr; sons, Wayland Lohr and wife Barbara and Travis Lohr and wife Sara; brother, Wesley Lohr; Grandchildren: Hunter Koontz, Maxwell Lohr, Bodie Lohr, Piper Lohr, Scout Lohr, Lane McHale and Dottie McHale.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, 59 Edgewood School Lane, Madison, Virginia, 22727 with Bob Slaven officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
