Halsey releases new song “I Never Loved You”

The pop singer's new track is her latest work from her upcoming album The great imitator

For Halsey, love is a matter of life or death. In the new Kate Bush-inspired track “I Never Loved You,” the pop singer compares the end of a relationship to open-heart surgery. Over muted synthesizers and somber piano chords, she sings “I never loved you in vain” to a former lover.

The song follows “Ego” and “Lonely Is the Muse” as the latest single from Halsey’s upcoming fifth album The great fraudsterwill be released on October 25th.

Halsey announced “I Never Loved You” a day before its release as part of her unique tracklist rollout on social media. Since the singer shared a trailer for The great imitatorshe counts down the release date by imitating various musical icons that correlate with each new track that is revealed. Halsey dressed up as '80s-era Kate Bush for the “I Never Loved You” announcement and warned fans, “This song goes deep.”

In another social media post, Halsey encouraged her attentive fans to “listen closely” to the swirling track. Lyrically, “I Never Loved You” appears to reference Halsey's previous relationship with Alev Aydin, who is also the father of her child. Earlier this year, Halsey referenced the breakup in her Britney Spears-inspired song “Lucky” when she sang “Became a single mom at my premiere.”

The great fraudster promises to be filled with even more revealing deep cuts. This comes after the singer shared that they were diagnosed with lupus SLE and a rare lymphoproliferative T-cell disease. When they announced the LP, Halsey said, “I made this record in the time between life and death.”
