“It was always fun to train” Daniel Jones

After an ugly Week 1 performance against the Minnesota Vikings caused many to question his future in the NFL, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has rebounded significantly.

Over the last four weeks, Jones has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL, throwing six touchdowns with just one interception, which came on a Hail Mary attempt.

Although the Giants are 2-2 in that span, they could easily have gone 4-0. None of the losses fall on Jones' shoulders, although one could argue that his hard work against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 was the catalyst for the upset win.

Even if this is considered an exaggeration, the bottom line is that the Giants are having fun again. And head coach Brian Daboll is having a lot of fun coaching Jones.

“It was always fun to coach him because he’s a true professional,” Daboll said of Jones. “Again, I always want to get results but I have a lot of confidence in him, the way he plays, the way he prepares. (We) feel comfortable putting the ball in his hands. We did that at the start of the game. We followed them a little bit and threw the ball. So I have a lot of confidence in him.”

Jones has also returned to his bruising style on the floor. He has become comfortable dropping his shoulder and taking on defenders, which was a staple of his game before he tore his ACL in 2023.

Although the Giants don't want Jones to get hurt, they also don't want to limit his competitive spirit.

“You have to be smart about it, but he is a real competitor. “There was a play a few weeks ago where he was pushing the starting line in Cleveland,” Daboll added. “He is a competitive young man and Daniel Jones has done everything I and we have asked of him. He's here early. He stays a long time. He has good leadership qualities. It's never been easy for him, but everything we've asked of him he does as best he can. He played good football here. We’re going to need him to continue to do that.”

Now it's up to Jones to end his ugly streak in primetime games. He will have that opportunity on Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Both Daboll and Jones hope the fun continues.
