Why is Gretchen Whitmer feeding the left-wing influencer Doritos?

DETROIT – This is strange.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer raised eyebrows Thursday when she posted a bizarre video of herself feeding Doritos into the mouth of a liberal podcaster in what some said was a ploy to impersonate the Catholic sacrament of saints imitated communion.

In the short clip posted to podcaster Liz Plank's Instagram account, the left-leaning influencer was seen on her knees and opening her mouth to allow Whitmer to place Doritos on her tongue.

Whitmer has expanded her TikTok presence.
Liz Plank received a Dorito from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Plank was then seen eating it as the camera panned to reveal Whitmer wearing a camouflaged Harris Walz hat.

The video appears to be a reference to a TikTok meme in which friends feed each other food and stare uncomfortably at the camera.

Plank, the face of an influencer group calling itself “Hotties For Harris,” tried to turn the video into a statement on industry policy — specifically the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, which provided billions in funding to boost the semiconductor industry.

“If he doesn’t do it, Gretchen Whitmer will. Not only are chips delicious, the CHIPS Act fundamentally changes technology and manufacturing in the US and increases domestic production of semiconductors to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers! “Donald Trump would jeopardize this,” Plank captioned the Instagram video.

But most users couldn't get over the sacrilegious undertones of the clip. It quickly sparked confusion, intrigue and criticism on social media.

“Many Catholics will take this as a mockery of the communion rail,” NewsBusters editor-in-chief Tim Graham pointed out on Whitmer from Michigan pretends to give communion to a left-wing podcaster on her knees using a Dorito as a Eucharist while wearing a Harris Walz hat.”

“Do they want ZERO Catholic votes for Harris?”

Conservative pundit Liz Wheeler complained:

“It's crazy that some Christians refuse to vote when Democrats clearly loathe you… because you're a Christian.”

Critics also called out Whitmer and Plank for the vileness of the video.

“Yeah, but JD Vance is 'weird,'” scoffed Bill G. Schuette, a first-term Republican state representative

Michigan Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt said: “Michigan Democrats are embroiled in controversy for donating $175 million to a company linked to the Chinese Communist Party – and apparently Gov. Whitmer wants to show it off “That she's lost her mind.”

“Or maybe she's trying to make Kamala Harris seem somewhat normal in comparison.”

Nesbitt was referring to plans for the Gotion electric vehicle battery factory, which has become a flashpoint in the state's extremely tough Senate race over Gotion's ties to China.
