Bellamy: “I would be worried if there were no expectations”

Craig Bellamy and Ben Davies shared their views on team expectations ahead of the UEFA Nations League game against Iceland in Reykjavik today (October 11). Further pre-match preparations can be found on the Cymru Match Center and RedWall+.

“I would be worried if there were no expectations,” Bellamy said. “I certainly don’t believe in ever downplaying them. I don't think that would be fair to the people who come to watch.

“We have a level of patience but also understanding within the group, we also have to be sensible, but for anyone, whether it's the public or whatever, if they're upset, we want them to be right there.

“I definitely wouldn’t downplay it. I have to be honest, I’m excited.”

Ben Davies added: “There is excitement and a bit of extra pressure to repeat (from the last camp). All we can do is play the exciting football we can and try to win games.

“We have a plan and we have to stick to it. We try to be dominant on the ball and create as many chances as possible. We try to make the games exciting and I think we showed that in the first few games.”

On his appointment as captain, Davies said: “It is always a privilege to be captain of your country,” he said. “I love doing it and I will never get tired of it. Honestly, it’s the best feeling in football.”
