The Mets' Brandon Nimmo was focused on the NLCS but says the Subway Series would be a “dream scenario.”

After the Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals in Game 4 of the ALDS on Thursday night, they officially joined the Mets as the first two teams to secure their spot in this year's Championship Series.

That means we are now eight wins away from a potential Subway Series clash in the Fall Classic for the second time in baseball history.

While neither team will look past their next opponent – both have yet to be determined – bringing the crosstown rivalry to the game's biggest stage is certainly an entertaining prospect for everyone.

Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo was asked about the possible duel while speaking to reporters on Friday afternoon.

“It would be great,” he said. “If it gets to that point, we would definitely enjoy it and it would be a great time to be part of the city and both of these organizations. But both teams have something to take care of first, and it's a big deal.

“We'll concentrate on it and not let our minds wander, but it would be a lot of fun, there's no doubt about it. It would be a dream scenario, I would enjoy it immensely and it would be a story you would tell for the rest of your life – but there is a big obstacle in the way, so let's focus on that.”

For the boys in the Bronx, that obstacle will be decided by the winner of Saturday afternoon's Game 5 between the AL Central champion Cleveland Guardians and the surging Detroit Tigers.

The Mets, meanwhile, will travel to the West Coast to take on the winner of Friday night's Game 5 between division rivals the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.

While the Orange and Blue faithful certainly have plenty of opinions about who they'd rather see for the potential seven-game set, Nimmo insists the Mets don't care.

“We like our team against anyone,” he said. “I don’t think it matters who wins, one way or the other. It will be a big challenge and a good team to play against, but we are confident about where we are as a team.”
