Baker Mayfield: Defeat against Broncos a good lesson on how we need to prepare

The Buccaneers earned a win in Detroit in Week 2 that helped them exorcise some demons from their playoff loss to the Lions last January, but they weren't as successful at home on Sunday.

The Broncos jumped out to an early lead and kept the Bucs on edge during their 27-6 victory, which was Denver's first of the year. After the game, quarterback Baker Mayfield said the team needs to learn that they have to approach a game against an 0-2 team the same way they approach a game against a playoff opponent.

“You need to Prepare as if you were playing in a playoff game every week, otherwise this can happen,” Mayfield said via the team's website. “We got our asses kicked across the board physically and execution-wise. It's a good lesson for our team, for the young guys who haven't experienced this, and shows what you have to be prepared for and the level of detail we have to be. For it to happen this early, for me, it's about taking the positives and taking it in stride. There's nothing else to do and moving on from there.”

The Bucs can show what they've learned next weekend at home against the Eagles, and another loss will wipe out the good feelings that have accompanied their 2-0 start, so Mayfield will hope his words resonate with his teammates.
