Two cats take home SWAC weekly awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ktyal. price and Jasmine Robinson have each won the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) weekly volleyball awards, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon at its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama. Price was named Defensive Player of the Week and Robinson was named Newcomer of the Week.

Ktyal priceA 6-foot-2 redshirt senior from Robbinsdale, Minn., was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season after respectfully helping Bethune-Cookman to a pair of home wins against Alabama A&M and Alabama State. This week, the Hopkins High product recorded 17 kills and 18 blocks for the Wildcats. Against Alabama A&M, she recorded six blocks and four kills. Two days later, in a five-set win against Alabama State, she hit .526 and recorded 13 kills on 19 attempts. She also set a new school record for blocks in a single game with a total of 12 blocks. For Price, the blocks record was her second single-game record of the season after she set a new record for hitting percentage in a game with a .909 batting average on the road against Mississippi Valley State.

Jasmine RobinsonA 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Fleming Island, Florida, receives her first SWAC weekly honor of the season by being named Newcomer of the Week. Robinson respectfully helped Bethune-Cookman to a 2-0 victory over Alabama A&M and Alabama State during the week of wins over Alabama A&M and Alabama State at Moore Gymnasium, posting 23 kills, 18 digs, seven service aces and five blocks (four assists). Against AAMU, she hit .316 with eight kills, along with seven digs, three service aces and two blocks. In the win over Alabama State – the first of its kind for B-CU since joining the SWAC – the Fleming Island High graduate recorded 15 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the year.

Bethune-Cookman will face in-state opponent Florida A&M in an important SWAC showdown on Wednesday, October 9 at 6 p.m
