“Terrifier 3” is jostling for competition while “Joker” is struggling at the box office

It has left its competition behind.

Supernatural slasher flick “Terrifier 3” was No. 1 at the box office on its opening day Friday, grossing nearly $8.2 million, according to The Numbers.

The third entry in the Terrifier series, which Variety called “the sickest entry yet,” could gross up to $17 million in its opening weekend.

The audience is even physically affected by the horror film.

“The Wild Robot” took second place in its third Friday in theaters, grossing $3.82 million.

Last weekend, the sci-fi adventure passed the $100 million mark in worldwide grosses, and its filmmaker Chris Sanders has already confirmed that a sequel is in the works, according to Deadline.

“Joker: Folie á Deux,” which debuted at No. 1 last Friday, fell two spots to third, taking in just $2.2 million.

According to Variety, some experts are predicting that ticket sales for the Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga-directed psychological thriller could be down as much as 75% this weekend.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” took fourth place Friday, its sixth in theaters, with earnings of $1.95 million.

Fifth place went to “Piece by Piece,” which grossed $1.49 million.

The biographical documentary chronicles the life of Pharrell Williams, who is played by animated Legos.
