COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Alexandru Irinel Matan scored a hat trick after an early goal from defenseman DeJuan Jones and the Columbus Crew cruised to a 4-0 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night.

Jones gave Columbus (18-6-9) a 1-0 lead over his former team in the 5th minute with assists from Aziel Jackson and Dylan Chambost for the second time in nine games since taking over from New England Goal scored (9-20-4). It was Jackson's third assist in his eighth appearance since joining from St. Louis City.

Matan received a pass from Chambost and scored nine minutes later for a 2-0 lead that lasted until halftime. It was Chambost's fourth assist in his ninth career appearance.

Matan scored again in the 64th minute with an assist from defender Rudy Camacho – his first goal of the season. Matan completed his first career hat-trick when he received a pass from Jones and scored in the 72nd minute. He was substituted two minutes later. Matan scored a goal before the game this season. His only other goalscorer came last season in 31 appearances. Jones' assist was his first of the season.

Abraham Romero finished his second career start with two saves as a scorer for the Crew, already a No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Aljaz Ivacic saved four shots for the Revolution.

The Crew travels to a Decision Day game against the New York Red Bulls on October 19th. The Revolution ends their season on October 19th away against Inter Miami.
