Blue Angels cancel flight due to weather – NBC Bay Area

According to the organization, the Blue Angels had to cancel their flight to Saturday's Fleet Week Air Show due to weather conditions.

The annual fall tradition, which runs from October 7th to 14th, was scheduled to include three separate air shows on Friday, October 11th, Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th.

The Blue Angels were scheduled to headline the air shows, but there will be many other aerial acts.

“The Blue Angels conducted an observation flight and determined that the flight was unsafe due to the fog,” SF Fleet Week wrote in a Facebook post. “They’ll be back tomorrow. If you missed the action today, get ready for a great show tomorrow!”

Ahead of Saturday's scheduled show, it was expected that weather conditions would potentially impact flights.

San Francisco's famous fog was expected to negatively impact this weekend's always exciting Fleet Week air show featuring the Blue Angels.

According to the Blue Angels, for a big show the ceiling must be at least 8,000 feet and visibility must be at least three nautical miles. Under these conditions, the Blue Angels are able to execute their legendary rolls, loops, passes and diamond formations.

Under cloudy skies, at least 4,500 feet of cloud cover would be required for the Blue Angels to put on a low-level show, including pilots performing some maneuvers but none of the rolls.

If the ceiling had dropped to 1,000 feet, viewers would have seen a flat show. The Blue Angels said before the weekend that they would not fly if clouds were deeper than 1,000 feet.
