Much cooler air will arrive by Tuesday morning

RICHMOND, Va. – Skies will be partly to partly cloudy overnight. To the west, near Charlottesville and in the mountains, there is a chance of a shower or two. It will be a mild night with lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

A cold front will move east of the region on Monday. The wind will pick up again, with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the metro area will be in the low 70s but will range from the mid 60s in the far northwest to the mid 70s in the far southeast.

As much cooler air continues to move into the area, Tuesday will be partly to mostly cloudy and we could see a few sprinkles or very light showers. Highs will be in the upper 50s and low 60s. Tuesday night will be chilly with lows between 30 and 40 degrees. Some remote areas west of I-95 could see temperatures near freezing.

Dry weather is expected from Wednesday until next weekend. Lowest temperatures in the morning will be around 30°C, with frost possible on Thursday and Friday morning. Daily highs will be around 60 degrees on Wednesday, in the lower 60s on Thursday and in the upper 60s on Friday.

Temperatures will become moderate next weekend, with highs in the lower and mid 70s.

In the tropics we continue to observe a low pressure system a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands. It is currently in an unfavorable area for development, but if it can survive as it moves west across the Atlantic, there is a chance for some development as it approaches the Leeward Islands later this week.
