Cooler but more typical for mid-October

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The last time highs in Lincoln were in the 60s was September 22nd. This was unusual as we should have been in the upper 70s. If we reach the 60s on Sunday, we will be below normal for the first time since October 1st.

The minimum temperatures will also be cooler this evening than in recent days. In the west we could drop to around freezing, but in the east we should stay in the mid to upper 40s.

Highs on Sunday are expected to be mostly in the 60s, but there could be spots that only get into the upper 50s.

With skies mostly clear Monday morning, we will have low temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Widespread freeze warnings and freeze watches are in effect for much of central and western Nebraska early Monday morning. Outdoor plants and vegetation are likely to be damaged by these near and below freezing temperatures.

Temperatures won't be cool all week as we expect them to warm back up to 70-80 degrees across the country on Thursday. What's even more remarkable is that here in the capital there is a chance of rain on consecutive days next Friday and Saturday for the first time in quite some time.
