Club América triumphs over Chivas in the Clásico de México and attracts a record crowd in Houston

PRIMETIME Sports announced a historic participation in the annual Clásico de México as Club América defeated Chivas de Guadalajara in front of a record crowd of 54,117 fans at NRG Stadium in Houston.

The continental showdown, which featured the legendary rivalry between two of Mexico's best football clubs, not only offered exciting action but also set the record for the highest attendance for a game between two Mexican clubs in the Space City.

This year's clash in Houston was among the highest-attended Liga MX games in the United States and Mexico in 2024, highlighting the large fan base and enthusiasm surrounding the sport.

The game also featured half-time entertainment courtesy of the Kumbia Kings.

The match was energetic. Club América won 2-0 against Chivas.

Houston's successful event further cemented its reputation as a central soccer hub in North America. Many fans in attendance told FOX 26 they are looking forward to the city hosting games in the 2026 World Cup.

The game had a controversial ending. The focus was not on the players or the clubs, but on their fans.

Chivas fans threw banned objects onto the pitch and many fans had to be escorted from the stadium.

Last year, the Clásico drew more than 85,000 spectators to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The 2019 game drew 61,417 fans to Soldier Field, tying the stadium's previous record for an international club soccer game.

The success of these events underscores the growing popularity of soccer in the United States and the deep-rooted rivalry that continues to captivate fans around the world.
