Canadian Cloé Lacasse scores the first hat trick in Royals franchise history in the win against Reign

Sudbury Ontario's Cloé Lacasse scored three first-half goals for the first hat trick in franchise history, helping the Royals snap a three-game winning streak against the visiting Seattle Reign 3-0.

The 31-year-old Lacasse scored goals in the third and 20th minutes before scoring her final goal in overtime of the first half. She scored the first goal when she converted a Utah corner and then followed up her own shot, which had been blocked, for the second goal.

Claudia Zornoza assisted on the Royals' (7-14-3, 24 points) third goal by sending the ball to Lacasse just inside the penalty area.

Lacasse, who scored the NWSL's only hat trick this year, had one goal in seven games to start the day.

Sudbury Ontario Olympian Cloé Lacasse had a historic night as she scored three first-half goals to lead the Utah Royals to a 3-0 victory over Seattle Reign FC. It was the first hat trick in club history, the first hat trick of the 2024 NWSL season and the second hat trick in league history to be scored in the first half.

Goalkeeper Mandy Haught needed just one save for the shutout.

Seattle (5-14-5, 20 points) has lost five straight games and has not scored in any of those games. After Angharad James-Turner's red card in the 16th minute, The Reign were down one player.
