Jonathan Davis and David Silveria reflect on Korn's 30th anniversary

Over the weekend, legendary nu-metal band Korn celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album. The 1994 release was remembered by countless fans around the world as the small band from Bakersfield burst into the spotlight and took their first steps into the powerhouse they are today. In two separate social media posts, frontman Jonathan Davis and former drummer David Silveria reflected on this iconic release and took a moment to reflect on its implications grain was on stage all those years ago.

As the band's founding singer and voice, Davis looked back on the release of the band's debut album. He is now 53 years old and has 14 studio albums under his belt. He said he was grateful for the career that this album launched and also for the people who helped make this album happen in the first place.

“I can’t believe you’re 30 years old. I'm so proud of this record, it's changed so many things in my life. I remember my 24-year-old self being so nervous that I opened my heart to let the world feel the pain I was going through at the time. It's so incredible that it has helped so many on their journey through the darkness we all know so well.

“@ross_robinson, thank you for capturing every emotional breath I took, the sound of my teeth grinding due to the tension in my body. My brothers @munky_korn, @brianheadwelch, @fieldykorn @silveriadavid, you have given me the most incredible music for what I do. You made me feel safe and for that I am forever grateful. I want to thank everyone who listened to this record from the bottom of my heart. It gave me strength and this amazing feeling that I wasn't completely alone in all of this. Here’s to many more years!!!! I love you all.”

Having left the band since his exit in 2006, Silveria has largely been out of the spotlight, aside from the occasional band here and there. Despite his departure, he said he still looks back fondly on his time with the band. These days, Ray Luzier keeps things behind the instrument, but it's hard not to see how important Silveria's unique drumming style has been in driving the band forward.

“When I was 10 years old I got my first drum kit. I knew then that I wanted to play music for people all over the world. Then I met the guys and everything came true. But none of this would have happened without the fans around the world. Thanks to you, my childhood dream came true.

“The right five guys came together at the perfect time and made history. I am deeply grateful to the boys for their incredible creativity, absolute dedication and hard work and commitment to the band. I love you guys so much!”

I grew up at exactly the right time to grow with Korn's self-titled label and be a huge fan by then Untouchablesit was great to revisit this album after so many years. Remember, this album went double platinum due to the singles “Need To,” “Shoots and Ladders,” “Clown,” and of course “Blind.”
