Republicans turn Bill Clinton's migrant comments into attack ad

Transgender rights also came under intense scrutiny through Republican attack ads in the final weeks of the campaign.

At Trump's recent rallies, footage from the 1987 Vietnam War film “Full Metal Jacket,” directed by Stanley Kubrick, was used to mock the Democratic administration's openly welcoming LGBTQ+ soldiers serving in the military.

The clips feature scenes starring R. Lee Ermey as Marine Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, perhaps Hollywood's most memorable drill sergeant, a character known for his vulgar and sometimes racist outbursts toward new military recruits.

These clips with the caption “THEN” are juxtaposed with clips of people expressing support for LGBTQ+ rights and drag performers with the captions “NOW” and “THE BIDEN HARRIS MILITARY.”

Vivian Kubrick, the late director's daughter, said Monday that the ads would have her “blessing” if they could act as an antidote to “the demoralizing effects of wakefulness” in the military.

“If this footage from FMJ helps Trump make it clear that the US military needs properly trained, super tough, focused and dedicated warriors and not introduce the demoralizing effects of wokeism and entice people to simply join up to fulfill their sexual needs “If I pay to reassign, then Trump has my blessing,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
