Steelers QB Russell Wilson is expected to start against the Jets on Sunday night

According to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is expected to make first-team reps in practice this week and face the New York Jets on Sunday night.

While Pelissero hinted that Wilson is in the starting lineup, head coach Mike Tomlin refrained from officially naming him the starter during Tuesday's press release.

“Over the week I became familiar with his ability to showcase his health. He will be considered this week. We’ll see where this goes,” Tomlin said.

The 35-year-old Wilson has not played for the Steelers this season due to a calf strain, but is now nearly 100% fit and is expected to replace Justin Fields, who led the team to a 4-2 start to the season.

Fields has filled in well for Wilson in his absence, completing 66.3% of his passes for 1,106 yards and five passing touchdowns with one interception. He also has 231 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

While the Steelers have done just enough to win multiple games this season, the passing game still leaves a lot to be desired. The Steelers are hoping Wilson can offer a little more through the air to unlock that part of the offense.

Worst-case scenario, the Steelers can always call on Fields, who has done a good job in Wilson's absence.

In 15 games last season with the Denver Broncos, Wilson completed 66.4% of his passes for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdowns with eight interceptions.
