Aaron Rodgers on criticizing Mike Williams: We should all be held to a standard

After Monday night's loss to the Bills, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said that Mike Williams, who ran the wrong route, was responsible for the crucial interception late in the fourth quarter. Today, Rodgers said he won't hesitate to criticize anyone, be it Williams or himself.

When asked about his comments about Williams on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said he was just answering one question honestly when he stated that Williams wasn't where he was supposed to be when Rodgers threw an interception his way.

“I think if you look at my press conferences, when I made mistakes, I started with myself,” Rodgers said. “This is the standard for everyone. There were a lot of mistakes throughout the night, but just looking at this play begs the question: What happened on this play? There were two verticals on the right and Mike had to reach the red line, which would have been a big win. So I just confronted Mike about his responsibility and the details of this piece. I have great love and respect for Mike. He does some nice things for us. He wasn't in the right place on this play. You can make more of it if you want, but we should all hold ourselves to a standard. I hold myself to a standard of greatness, and when that wasn't there – which it wasn't at certain times – I stood up and said, 'I've got to play better.' I wasn't good enough tonight.' Hopefully it's an example for everyone else to start with themselves. But that question was what happened in the last game, I said what happened in the last game.”

With the Jets wants to leave Williams behindRodgers probably won't have to worry about going down the wrong path for much longer.
