Matt LaFleur says the Packers are not considering a move at this time

GREEN BAY – If the Green Bay Packers can't find someone better to fill their kicker job than struggling rookie Brayden Narveson in the NFL's typically lean October market, they could get creative.

The Packers used an international exemption for Australian kicker Alex Hale, a rookie who is currently on their practice squad. They could name Hale to the active gameday roster three times, just like any other player on their practice squad.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur would only say Monday that Hale could “potentially” be ready to kick if they want to give him a chance this week. It would likely depend on how Hale, a late addition to the roster in training camp, performed in practice. When asked if he was thinking about a change at kicker, LaFleur said: “I wouldn't say that at the moment, no.”

But Narveson's problems have worsened in the first six games. The rookie missed a 44-yard field goal in the third quarter of Sunday's 34-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals, the fourth time he missed a shot this season. In another game, Week 3 at the Tennessee Titans, Narveson missed a 48-yard field goal that was canceled due to a defensive penalty.

Narveson has made just 12 of 17 field goals this season. His 17 field goal attempts are the second most in the NFL. Of the 25 NFL kickers with at least 10 attempts, only Narveson has missed more than three kicks. Each of his misses came for less than 50 yards.

LaFleur said after Sunday's game that he continues to have confidence in his rookie kicker. When asked Monday when Narveson's misses will require a change, LaFleur simply said he hasn't reached that point yet. But promoting Hale for a week or two could be a way for the Packers to restore Narveson's confidence.

“We’ll see,” LaFleur said. “We’re going to take it day by day.”
