Musician Leon Bridges took on four iconic traditions at the State Fair over the Texas-OU weekend

The morning after musician Leon Bridges performed a soulful set at the Austin City Limits music festival, he traveled north to Dallas to attend the State Fair of Texas.

Bridge's walk through Fair Park included at least four iconic State Fair traditions: a stop for a Fletcher's Original Corny Dog curled with yellow mustard; a smile in front of Big Tex; a ride on the Texas Star Ferris Wheel; and a look at the Texas-OU football game from the sidelines of the Cotton Bowl.

Bridges reportedly attended a University of Texas party before the football game. Texas beat OU 34-3 in the Red River Rivalry game.

The singer's visit to the State Fair of Texas is something of a coming home story, as Bridges is from Fort Worth. His latest album, Leonpublished in October 2024, contains flourishes about his home state. The song “That's What I Love” mentions “Spring on the Trinity River,” the waterway that runs hundreds of miles through Texas, including between Dallas and Fort Worth.

The soul singer is one of many celebrities who attended the state fair. Oprah Winfrey, like Bridges, ate a Fletcher's Corny Dog with mustard during her famous visit in 2009. (A funnel cake concessionaire marked the spot where Winfrey sat on a bench this year; the seat remains upside down so customers can see him as they walk by.)

Musicians who attended the State Fair included Elvis Presley in 1956, Garth Brooks in 1990 and Selena Quintanilla Pérez in 1994.

In 2024, Usher was spotted playing at the State Fair of Texas.
