Texas rejoices as fall weather arrives!

A strong cold front has finally brought fall weather to Texas. The front has yet to move into the southern third of Texas and will do so later today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the lower Gulf Coast of Texas, the Rio Grande Valley and deep South Texas this afternoon and Thursday. Heavy rain is possible locally with a rainfall of 2 to 5 centimeters. It may also rain on Thursday evening in Far West Texas in the border country (El Paso region).

High temperatures across the state this afternoon will be twenty to thirty degrees lower than last weekend. The northern two-thirds of Texas will peak in the 60s to lower 70s, while the south will reach the 70s and 80s. Tonight will be comparatively cool, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s along and north of Interstate 10. It won't be cold in the winter, but since most of us are used to summer, it will be cool in the morning.

High temperatures will remain pleasant until mid-October as we wind down the work week. A slow warming trend will begin Friday, with above-average temperatures returning to Texas early next week.
