Victor Wembanyama offers a pretty harsh quote about stars who don't work hard

Victor Wembanyama is on the cover of Sports Illustrated before his second NBA season. In addition to the magazine profile, Wemby took the time to sit down and answer some questions via video about Star Wars, aliens and gaming with Chris Paul.

He also revealed what he learned during his rookie season, and one quote from the video in particular is making the rounds on social media as people try to guess who Wemby is talking about.

Here the Spurs star talks about how some players inspired him and others didn't quite live up to the hype.

Wembanyama was asked what surprised him about his rookie season and said: “I think for better or worse it's about how truly the best in the game are. How positive that some of them are really impressive and inspiring in their way.” But others that I used to like, I'm not sure they deserve it, you know… They don't seem to put in as much work, as I thought. ”

Pretty spicy, right? When asked if there were any players in the league he still admired, Wemby named one of his French team-mates but always came back to one player.

“Some of the guys kind of were, some of the guys I watched as a kid, I’m not disappointed, but I think that’s all? But of course some of them I talk like KD.”, you know, I got to know Rudy Gobert better with the national team, I know their work ethic, I know how they see the game and it's really inspiring and I want the same thing do.

After asking the original question, he reiterated that it was Kevin Durant. Unfortunately, he did not name specific names of players whose work ethic he found to be poor. Nevertheless, the 20-year-old has incredible self-confidence. Not to mention the uncanny ability to recognize the real workers of the league at such a young age. Knowing who is grumpy and who isn't should be a useful skill as he continues his rise and wants to add more players to his team.
