The woman who responded to this tweet received a lot of attention because it was posted just before the official news of Payne's tragic death spread online.

The woman did not confirm the singer's death in her tweet or make any claims about the authenticity of the information, but instead clarified that she was simply relaying information that had been given to her by a friend who was staying at the same hotel as Payne stayed overnight.

“A mutual friend is in Argentina at the same hotel as Liam Payne and she said he just jumped off his balcony????? There are ambulances everywhere and everything is crazy. I sincerely hope he's okay if this actually happens. Holy smokes, dude!!!! (sic),” the woman posted on X.

Her post was viewed nearly 25 million times on the social media platform, with many users comparing it to the “Abbottabad helicopter tweet” that went viral in 2011. Social media users noticed that the tweet was shared an hour before TMZ published the news of Payne's death.

In follow-up tweets, the woman also shared screenshots of her text exchanges with her friend in Argentina.

Facing backlash from Payne fans who claimed her post was insensitive and inappropriate, she responded: “I don't think it's that crazy of me to tweet about something crazy that my friend told me. I didn’t think it was anything that big, I assumed it was a mistake or something and that he was fine!”

“I didn’t think it would leave my circle. I tweeted, went away for about an hour and came back to the news that he had died and the tweet exploded. “Sorry to those who think I was insensitive, that wasn't my intention!” the woman explained.
