The New Orleans Saints honored legendary franchise quarterback Drew Brees as the newest member of their Hall of Fame on Thursday night during halftime of the team's home game against the Denver Broncos.

When Brees grabbed the microphone, he led the Saints faithful in the pregame chant he shouted to his teammates during the victorious 2009 Super Bowl season. It was quite an achievement to bring the entire crowd into the game considering the Saints had just trailed 16-3 at halftime.

Brees was also honored with his former Saints head coach Sean Payton at Caesars Superdome. Payton, now the Broncos' head coach, led New Orleans from 2006 to 2021.

Brees played for the San Diego Chargers from 2001 to 2005 before a trade sent him to New Orleans, where he played from 2006 to 2020.

Brees is second all-time in NFL history in passing yards (80,358), second in passing touchdowns (571) and second in pass completions (7,142). He is a 13-time Pro Bowler and two-time Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year who finished fourth in NFL MVP voting four times. He led the NFL in passing yards seven times, completion percentage six times, passing touchdowns four times and quarterback rating twice.

New Orleans enjoyed great success under Brees, most notably winning Super Bowl XLIV at the conclusion of the 2009 season. The Saints reached the playoffs in nine of Brees' 15 seasons in New Orleans and won the NFC South eight times.

It goes without saying that Brees' placement in the Saints Hall of Fame was a lock and fans and analysts recognized him on social media.

There is a strong argument that Drew Brees is the greatest player in NFL history.

Brees' next big honor is likely to come in Canton, Ohio, where he is certain to become the first Pro Football Hall of Famer in 2026.
