Saints coach Dennis Allen says he's not afraid of being fired

It is fair to question the strength of Dennis Allen's job security. The New Orleans Saints head coach left Week 7 with a 2-5 record for the second time in three years; He was 3-4 at this time last year. After being badly beaten by his former boss Sean Payton (whose Denver Broncos suffered a 33-10 loss on Thursday night), it's fair to question Allen's status.

That's what Richard Sherman said on Amazon Prime at halftime, suggesting that poor performance from good players on the New Orleans defense would result in Allen being fired from his position. At that point, the Saints were outnumbered 16-3. They were then defeated 17-7.

After the game, Allen said he disagreed with Sherman's assessment, but when asked if he was worried about his job security, he glanced at his podium and replied curtly, “No.”

For now, he wants to take ten days of rest between this loss and an away game against the Los Angeles Chargers and evaluate their options. He examines everything from who to start on defense to who can return from injuries and whether or not it should be Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener filling in for Derek Carr. If general manager Mickey Loomis or team owner Gayle Benson fired him and went in a different direction, he would feel blindsided. At least that's the impression you get when you see how dismissively he dealt with this question.
