US presidential election 2024: Donald Trump roasts Kamala Harris and fellow Democrat Chuck Schumer at the Al Smith Dinner in New York

At the Al Smith Memorial Dinner in New York, former president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took the stage as the keynote speaker and delivered a series of humorous jabs aimed at Democrats, including her rival Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The event was a high-profile event benefiting Catholic Charitieshas a long tradition of presidential candidates attending before the election and exchanging light-hearted remarks. The 2024 The US presidential elections are scheduled for November 5th.

The Al Smith Memorial Dinner took place in New York on October 17th. Trump's rival Harris did not appear at the event but delivered a pre-recorded message.

As Trump took the podium, Chuck Schumer, sitting nearby, became one of the targets of Trump's sharp humor.

“Trump complains that the audience isn't laughing at his attempts at jokes: 'Does anyone get it?' Do you understand that? “Nobody understood,” Kamala Harris wrote in a subsequent post.

The Al Smith Dinner, named after former New York Gov. Al Smith, the first Roman Catholic candidate to run for president, has traditionally served as a platform for good-natured political banter.

Participants and social media users alike found Trump's comments entertaining.

As the event came to an end, there was a lot of reaction on social media, with many users taking to X to share their thoughts.

“I mean, he (Trump) isn’t wrong. He could say he’s a woman now and just as qualified as Kamala,” one user joked.

“Something tells me Chuck Schumer already spends a lot of time in the girls' locker rooms,” chimed in another user.

“Poor Chuck, he had to sit there and take it. He probably has indigestion now. Drove me crazy!” wrote another.

However, some social media users were critical of Harris' decision to skip the event, with one user posting: “Classless Kamala has broken a 40-year streak of Christian tradition…pathetic.”

Despite Harris' absence, the event was full of laughter and humor as the Al Smith Dinner once again lived up to its reputation as a light-hearted, nonpartisan political gathering.
