Costco customers camp out a week before the Napa store opens

For those who have never shopped at Costco before, or even for those who are just casual Costco shoppers, it might be a little strange to hear that people have been camping out in front of the new Napa location for almost a week, waiting to arrive It will be officially opened this Friday.

For Allen Le, the man in second place at the Napa location, this is more than a choice. It's a lifestyle.

“This is officially my third. I drove to Loomis and Riverbank,” said Allen Le, who drove from Sacramento to Napa.

Le said he has been camping in the parking lot of the new Costco since Sunday. He says he's here for one reason only.

“Alcohol. Anything I can find in there,” he told CBS News Bay Area

Le said that at every Costco grand opening, the store stocks a limited amount of rare alcohol.

Just a few spots behind Allen in line, we met a group of people who told us that they had flown all the way from Hawaii to buy a special brand of bourbon.

“Stuff we just won’t find in Hawaii. It’s pretty competitive there when it comes to bourbon,” Jaison Lee said.

Lee said he and his friends had been planning this trip for months. They drove here straight from the airport on Tuesday and have been camping ever since.

“We have lounge chairs. We have children's beds. We have sleeping bags that are all already stored in the car, but. We continued sleeping, I sleep on the chair, they have the cots. You'll just see it.” “A bunch of guys in sleeping bags out here,” Lee said.

Dave Sanchez is one of Jaison's friends who camps with him.

Sanchez is from nearby Rocklin and said he isn't as obsessed with Costco as his friends. He's really just out here to have a good time.

“Okay, I'm a little older now, but it reminds me of queuing for concert tickets back when we actually had to stand in line to buy a printed copy when one of our favorite bands came in. “Plus, you learn all these people from the “You get to know people from different walks of life, you make friends and you learn different experiences, and I love the people and I love learning about them and interacting with them, that's part of the excitement,” Sanchez told CBS News Bay Area.

However, for people like Jaison Lee and Allen Le, they are here on a mission. A mission that begins promptly at 8 a.m. Friday, when the doors of the new Costco officially open.
