The Shriners' start was delayed 4 hours due to high winds in Vegas

The PGA Tour delayed the start of Friday's second round at the Shriners Children's Open by four hours due to strong winds in Las Vegas.

The start was originally delayed by two hours and the practice facilities were closed due to wind gusts of 40-50 mph at TPC Summerlin. Another two-hour delay pushed the scheduled start time to 1:55 p.m. ET

“Friday morning's delay at the Shriners Children's Open is due to the extremely strong winds we are experiencing in Las Vegas,” head judge Stephen Cox said in a statement. “For the safety of emergency personnel, tournament volunteers, spectators, and our athletes and caddies, we have extended the delay while we continue to monitor the situation.”

Taylor Pendrith of Canada shot a 10-under-par 61 to take the lead after Thursday's opening round.

When play was suspended due to darkness, 10 players were tied for second with a 7-under 64. Eight players had not yet completed their rounds, including Joe Highsmith, who was 6 under through 17 holes and will have a 23-foot putt for eagle on his final hole, the par-5 ninth.
