Jaime Munguia defeats Erik Bazinyan in fight – Boxing results

Super middleweight contender Jaime Munguia (44-1, 35 KOs) had to overcome some difficult periods to defeat Erik Bazinyan (32-1-1, 23 KOs) by tenth-round knockout in a tougher-than-expected fight Friday night at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

Munguia struggled with Bazinyan's powerful jabs and boxing skills until the sixth round. In the seventh round, Munguia hurt Bazinyan with a one-two combination and unloaded a barrage of heavy punches that nearly stopped him.

In the tenth round, Munguia staggered Bazinyan with a hard left. Instead of boxing, Bazinyan tried to strike his way out of the round, but was hurt again by Munguia.

The Mexican star then unleashed a series of punches that knocked Bazinyan to the ground, and the referee counted him out. The fight was stopped at 2:36 of the tenth period.

Richard Torrez Jr. stops Joey Dawejko

Heavyweight Richard Torrez Jr. (11-0, 10 KOs) showed his toughness and took some hard hits to defeat veteran Joey Dawejko (28-12-4, 16 KOs) by fifth-round disqualification. An exhausted Dawejko lost his mouthguard four times in the fourth round and was deducted twice.

Whether it was intentional or not, the mouthpiece kept falling out when Dawejko was hit. It looked like Dawejko couldn't keep his mouth closed because his condition kept him gasping for air.

After the second point deduction in the fourth round, the referee warned Dawejko that he would disqualify him if he lost his mouthpiece again.

In the fifth round, Dawejko lost his mouthguard again after being hit by a hard punch. The referee didn't seem to care that he lost it to a punch and disqualified Dawejko anyway, spoiling the most entertaining round of the fight as he had hit Torrez Jr. with some punches that had drawn the crowd into the fight. The stoppage came at 2:02 of the fifth round.

Top Rank needs to make Torrez Jr. stronger now because they are offering him exactly the same thing they did with Edgar Berlanga when they promoted him.

Emiliano Vargas stops Larry Fryers

Light welterweight Emiliano Vargas (12-0, 10 KOs) remained undefeated with a fifth-round knockout of Larry Fryers (13-7-1, 5 KOs). Vargas knocked Fryers down with a left hook in the fifth round that dropped him flat on his back. The referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

Fryers was hurt in the second round by three uppercuts Vargas delivered after forcing him against the ropes. In the third round, Fryers hurt Vargas with a body shot that forced him back.
