Anti-NY Comment Makes Napheesa Collier's Husband Laugh While Lynx Reels From Sabrina Ionescu's Clutch Shot

Target Center still remembers Sabrina Ionescu's buzzer-beater in Game 3. It was a heartbreaking moment from one of New York's best, helping the Liberty lead the Finals 2-1. The Lynx are looking for revenge after losing despite home field advantage, and Napheesa Collier's husband joins in the fun off the field.

Basketball coach Alex Bazzell has been active on social media supporting his wife at the WNBA Finals. After their heroics in Game 1, he went to X and said: “My wife is SHE!!” Then again yesterday when a fan account posted “The Five Greatest Shots in New York Basketball of the Last 50 Years”Ionescu's shot was no. 2. They claimed that if the Liberty won the Finals, they would be No. 1. Then a fan brought in Trae Young, a thorn in the side of New York's NBA team, the Atlanta Hawks.

The fan reposted the original tweet and asked: “Where's Trae?” to which Bazzell replied with laughing emojis: “😂😂😂” It should be noted that Collier's husband has worked with several big names in the NBA, including Kobe Bryant. But most importantly, Bazzell also works with Young.

The Hawks star, best known for his playoff exploits against the New York Knicks in 2021, has been working with Collier's husband since 2019. No wonder, then, that Bazzell, who is clearly hoping his wife's Lynx win the championship, would support something anti-New York.

But despite the support Minnesota is receiving, many experts believe there is a good chance the Liberty will win their first championship. Eventually, even Stephen Curry applauded that game-winning shot, and if Ionescu's words are to be believed, it was no coincidence.

The University of Oregon knew who they were leaving to the WNBA when Ionescu was drafted into the league. But her path didn't exactly lead to instant stardom. Nonetheless, winning the three-point game last year and then competing with the 3-point king himself brought Ionescu more recognition than ever, and her hard work doubled. The Liberty star revealed to the New York Post how she had practiced those shots in the off-season, “I imagine a defender in front of me and visualize that high-pressure situation because that’s who I am and I want to be in that situation.”

Ionescu certainly delivered. With the game tied at 77-77 and 16 seconds remaining on the clock, New York coach Sandy Brondello called a timeout. As the game continued, the responsibility of handling the ball fell to Ionescu, with the Liberty aiming to allow her to move the ball to her left side towards the middle. But something went wrong when the lynx spotted them.

Jonquel Jones ran toward Breanna Stewart to draw attention to her as Ionescu possessed the ball. “I looked at her like, 'I don't think you should be on this side'” Jones said afterwards. “You saw me running up there and ghosting. It was crazy, I was just glad she did something with it.”

Brondello later repeated: “We wanted to have it on the left hand, so it was a little clunky, but in the end the result was good.” All's well that ends well! Sabrina Ionescu's focused offseason training paid off, especially after losing to the Aces in a similar situation in last season's finale. The Liberty now only has one more game to win!
