“You have to be able to travel in the Big Ten.”

EUGENE The Oregon Ducks extended their winning streak to 7-0 after defeating the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday, October 18, in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Ducks dominated on both sides of the ball and won the game 35-0.

“I’m happy that our boys are traveling and putting on a game. There will be a lot we can look back at from this game and say we can improve, but it's our first shutout here in a long time. It’s good to be able to make that happen,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said on the FOX broadcast after the win. “In the second half we were able to let the ball run. There's a lot to build on, but you have to be able to travel in the Big Ten. This is a tough conference. You have to be able to travel and win.”

This win over the Boilermakers marks Oregon's first shutout since 2012, when the Ducks faced the Arizona Wildcats. The Ducks' last away game was against their in-state rival, the Oregon State Beavers, in 1992.

After the game, Lanning praised Oregon for managing to pull off a road win against a program known for pulling off upsets over ranked teams.

What Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning had to say after Oregon's 35-0 win over Purdue:

Lanning on the depth of Oregon's roster:

“There are a lot of guys on our team who are ready for their moments when their moments require it. The choice of Kam was great. You saw some, you know, some TFLs there at the end from some of our young defensive linemen. “Some guys come into the offense and maybe don't have the same opportunities as others. But we always talk about how we're next and we saw some of that tonight.

Lanning on Oregon's defense:

“Certainly a lot of positive things. Keeping a team out of the end zone is a positive, right? It's better for us to be the team we want to be. Some of that showed for us in the first half and I think we need to improve on it.

Lanning on Oregon's fast-paced defense:

“I think it can be better. I mean, if a team plays a little left-handed, they obviously won't have much success in the passing game. She'll have more success, you know, running the ball” if they do it as often as they did. But we have to be better at it to be what we want to be.

Lanning on Dillon Gabriel:

“Yeah, I think he showed what he could show all season. I think you want that knowledge back, and of course that shouldn't happen. We continue to preach it and we have to stick with it.” But overall I thought he played really well on offense and showed us some advantageous checks at times, which is great to see.

Lanning on Ryan Browne:

“It’s always hard to play against a quarterback who can run and throw like he does. I think he is a talented player, I think he has a bright future ahead of him. So, you know, but that was definitely a focus for us. “It's a challenge to play a guy like that.”

Lanning on Oregon's overall performance:

“Our guys, you know, I said, 'Regardless of the result, if someone asked me, how was our preparation this week?' I thought our preparation was really, really good. I thought our guys were ready to work on Monday. Understand that you can't rest on your laurels like we need to get better and I think that started Monday practice for our guys last week. And I can tell you that these guys had a good week of training despite the result of the game.”

Lanning on Oregon's running game:

“I think we wanted to establish ourselves better in the second half. And they did some good things to, you know, take away some of our run game plan. You know, they've traditionally been a bad team. “In this game they played a lot more. They had some good answers and had to ask themselves, “Okay, what runs do we like compared to what they do?” And we would have done it sooner, but finishing the game the way we did with some of the other guys “What we did in the game is a positive thing.”

Lanning on Terrance Ferguson's status:

“Terrance is a really tough guy. Midway through the week he started to feel his appendix actually need to be removed. We expect a quick recovery based on what that looks like for him and how wisely we handle him.” But if it had been up to him, I promise you, he would have been on the field today, even with a few stitches in his neck Page. So I think he'll be back relatively quickly. What's best for Terrance? And he's a tough guy, you know, this guy has played with a lot of injuries that you can't really play with when you have your appendix removed.

Lanning on Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti:

“I mean, they’re edgers. They're exactly what you're looking for when looking for edge types, aren't they? Like they're both guys that have gained a lot of weight and have done a good job on the strength aspect. “Our program has done an incredible job, but they work really diligently and when you have advantages on defense, it controls a lot of other things for you When you tackle the pass rush, I think you become a down player, which is what these guys have shown they can do.”

Lanning on Evan Stewart:

“I think he continues to take steps in the right direction. He is a weapon we must use. You know, I think about us last season, and at the beginning of the season Troy was a real threat to people. But later.” You know, as the season progressed, Tez became a real threat to the opponents. And when you have multiple threats on the field, I think it becomes really difficult to defend.
