Like an autumn festival? Oh, we have it for you this weekend in San Diego. As Calvin and Hobbes said (so to speak), this is the weekend Only packed.

The San Diego International Film Fest continues Friday morning with a bevy of feature films, shorts and documentaries. On Friday, see “San Diego Scene,” a focus on local short films; on Saturday, Mr. Blake at your servicewith John Malkovich and Jazzywith Lily Gladstone, who was nominated for the Oscar 2024, and on Sunday the improvised The Black Seawhich debuted at SXSW. Screenings will take place at Westfield UTC. Admission per film is $20.

For your Halloween pleasure there are:

  • Fright for Future — Run through an enchanted maze filled with ghosts of what organizers call “real horrors” — climate change, pollution and more — for three days starting Friday at the San Diego Made Factory, 2031 Commercial St. From 10 years. Doors open at 1 p.m. on Fridays and 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free, but seats can be reserved online.
  • Hauntfest on Main – El Cajon's annual free family-friendly event begins Friday at 4 p.m. with live music, costume contests, rides, a haunted car show and vendors offering food, crafts and games. Stroll east of Main Street from Magnolia Avenue to Ballantyne Street.
  • Haunted Circus – As part of Hauntfest, Magnolia in El Cajon will host its second annual circus on Friday at 4:30 p.m. It's a playful “superheroes and villains”-themed show featuring acrobats, jugglers, contortionists, stilt walkers and more. Tickets are limited and cost $23.
  • Midway Museum on San Diego Bay welcomes goons and goblins aboard the Haunted Hangar Deck on Friday at 6 p.m. The “Spooktacular” features activities, costume contests and treats for youth and “magic potion” cocktails for adults. Admission is $25.

Are you ready to trek through Ocean Beach in search of the best pie? Of course – that’s for pizza. Pizza Wars Ocean Beach starts Saturday at 2 p.m. The tour includes stops at OB's best parlors, from The Shop Pizza, Pomas Italian and Krisp to Wild Ales, Luigi's OB, Pazzo Pizza and more. The starting line: Nova Easy Kombucha, 4845 Newport Ave. Tickets start at $40.

Festivals of all stripes are breaking out everywhere:

  • University Heights Fall Festival – the free festival begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with live music, food trucks, craft beer, a pumpkin patch and family activities at Birney Elementary Joint Use Field, 4324 Park Blvd.
  • Día de los Muertos in Solana Beach – the free celebration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at La Colonia Park, 715 Valley Ave. More than 40 altars will honor the memories of lost loved ones, but for gaming there will be live music and dancing, piñatas for children, a Catrin/Catrina costume contest and a dog costume contest.
  • Vista Unified Festival of the Arts – Watch Vista students show off their skills on three stages on Main Street downtown at 10 a.m. Saturday. Performers include instrumental and vocal ensembles, dance groups, Ballet Folklorico, choirs, theater, visual arts and more.
  • Bella Vita Fest – View chalk art paintings created live on the sidewalks of Little Italy while enjoying Italian wine and food and listening to live music. Opens at 11 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays on sections of India Street from West Date to West Grape Street.
  • O'side Arts – Celebrate the Oceanside Cultural District on Saturday at 11 a.m. with an ArtWalk, artists at Civic Plaza and a parade starting at the Star Theater.
  • Guelaguetza – Visit Palomar College's Minkoff Field and take a look at everything Oaxaca has to offer, from dance to textiles to cuisine. Admission for Sunday's 10 a.m. event is $5.

And finally, celebrations of a more adult kind:

  • San Diego Spirits Festival – Billed as a “cocktail culture extravaganza,” the festival, now in its 15th year, begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla. The festival continues on Sunday at 1 p.m. Tickets start at $78.
  • Brews & Bites – the Santee Festival gets an 80s feel with the band Fast Times at Town Center Community Park East. Contemporary clothing is encouraged for the tasting, with appetizers from more than 30 local food and beverage vendors. The event begins on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. General admission is $55.
  • Belmont Beer Fest – Belmont Park in Mission Beach hosts its first-ever suds event, with pop-ups from local breweries, pumpkin games and live music at noon on Sundays. A $35 wristband gets you, ahhhhh, unlimited beer.
