Bally Sports has rebranded to FanDuel Sports Network for NBA, MLB and NHL TV

The sports gambling company, part of the troubled group of regional sports networks with local broadcast rights to more than 30 MLB, NBA, NHL and WNBA teams, is changing.

Bally Sports no longer exists. Diamond Sports Group announced it will be rebranding as FanDuel Sports Network starting Monday as part of a “broad, long-term commercial partnership.” Terms of the naming rights agreement were not disclosed.

Diamond Sports Group, the largest owner of regional sports networks in the country, filed for bankruptcy in March 2023. Their instability called into question the future of local broadcast rights for dozens of professional teams and led to league involvement. The company, which was formed in 2019 to facilitate the sale of a portfolio that then included 22 regional FOX Sports Networks and local television rights for 42 major professional teams, was forced to give up contracts to stay afloat.

Diamond Sports Group filed a restructuring plan in court earlier this month that included the possibility of broadcasting only one MLB team's games (Atlanta Braves) going forward, putting 11 MLB teams at risk of losing their regional sports network contracts for the 2025 season to lose. Diamond Sports Group also recently terminated its contracts with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans as part of its bankruptcy proceedings.

FanDuel Sports Network will own the local broadcast rights to 13 NBA teams and eight NHL teams across 16 regional sports networks during the 2024-25 season after a judge approved an amended agreement with the leagues last month. FanDuel Sports Network will also offer a direct-to-consumer streaming product for those who have cut the cord, and its programming will include syndication of FanDuel TV broadcasts outside of game coverage.

“Working with FanDuel provides Diamond with a tremendous opportunity to enhance the fan experience and deepen the value we provide to our team, our league and our distribution partners,” Diamond Sports Group CEO David Preschlack said in a statement. “This partnership provides opportunities to further strengthen our RSNs’ close connection with local fans, including enhancing our (direct-to-consumer) offering for a growing digital audience. In the meantime, we have entered into agreements with the NBA, the NHL and our key channel partner, we remain focused on driving our business and creating value for our team partners and our stakeholders.”
