New York Comic Con begins Thursday at the Javits Center in Manhattan

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – New York Comic Con kicked off Thursday at the Javits Center.

Hundreds of thousands are expected to attend the four-day convention, the largest comics and pop culture event on the East Coast.

The event features multiple panels featuring hit television shows, films and comics, as well as appearances from celebrities and numerous costumed fans.

Fallon Prinzivalli is the marketing director for Reed/Pop, the company that brings it all together.

“I think the unique thing about being in this place, especially in New York, which is also my hometown, is the community aspect. This is the one weekend a year when people who come here feel like they can be themselves. “They can embrace their inner geek,” Prinzivalli said.

The event isn't just fun and cosplay, it's big business. NYC Tourism estimates it will have an economic impact of over $80 million in a city where anything can happen, and anything can happen for four days.
