One of the last people to speak to him before his fatal fall recalled that he was angry after reading an email in which he screamed, “Fuck it, buddy!”

The hotel guest also confirmed reports that Liam Payne had taken drugs before his death as he was behaving erratically in the hotel.

It turns out that the “Midnight Hour” singer suffered a career setback just days before he fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

According to the Daily Mail, Payne's record label, Universal Music, dropped him just days before the tragic incident.

Payne was originally signed to Sony as part of his former boy band One Direction, but signed a new contract with Capitol Records, a Universal company, in July 2016, where he continued his solo career.

He was said to be “ecstatic” when he signed the contract, but was reportedly sacked following the company's recent restructuring.

Guest recalls Liam Payne reacting angrily to an email

Another hotel guest recounted her encounter with the late singer and recalled him responding angrily to an email.

According to the Daily Mail, A woman who identified herself as Rebecca revealed that she saw him hanging around the hotel lobby with his laptop open, wearing a white vest, cargo pants and sneakers, and that he responded angrily to an email.

She was particularly concerned because he had apparently turned on the accessibility feature for users with disabilities, so he would be notified of the cursor's movement on the screen.

“I have a blind relative and I realized that for some reason he had the laptop set to accessibility so that every time he moved the mouse and hovered over something, the device would say out loud where the cursor was,” explained Rebecca.

She continued: “I assumed he was doing it to get attention too. Then he opened his email and saw one that clearly upset him. Suddenly he picked up the computer and shouted, 'Fuck this shit, buddy!' and started banging the computer on the floor.

The singer appeared to be on drugs

Rebecca's account of her encounter with the “LP1” singer seemingly confirmed previous reports that he was under the influence of drugs.

She explained that Payne's behavior of slamming his laptop on the floor worried his fellow guests and hotel staff, and that she went up to him and asked him, “Are you OK?” but “he just kind of grunted” and said he was “so shitty” because he “used to be in a boy band.”

Rebecca then claimed that a Brit called Roger, who was dating Payne, came over to apologize for his behavior and said: “I'm sorry, he just gets so high sometimes.”

“I wondered what these people had done to him to help him, but maybe they had tried and failed security or the police,” she said.

The hotel guest noticed that she was trying to figure out why he was hanging around the lobby because she suspected he was planning on meeting someone to deliver his drugs. He reportedly returned to the lobby where he “stumbled, fell flat on his face and tumbled across the floor.”

“The staff came to help him and get him back into the elevator and that's when I took the last photo,” she said, referring to a photo she shared with the news outlet. “You can just see the arm of the Englishman who was with him holding the elevator door open before taking it back to the third floor.”

Liam Payne has overstayed his planned stay in Argentina

Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy left him in Buenos Aires two days before his death. The couple arrived in the Argentine capital earlier this month to attend the concert of their former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan.

They were only supposed to stay for five days, but ended up staying for two weeks. Afterwards, she apparently became homesick and decided to leave on October 14, two days before his death.

“I was so ready to go,” Cassidy shared in a TikTok video. “Honestly, I love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long. And we were supposed to be there for five days, but that turned into two weeks.”

Despite getting a “weird rash” before her flight due to her “anxiety,” Cassidy added that she was “so happy to be home” because “it was such a relief.”

The cause of the singer's death

Payne died on the spot after his fall and reportedly suffered life-changing injuries, including a fractured skull.

The head of Buenos Aires' emergency services, Alberto Crescenti, announced that Payne suffered a “fractured skull and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”

He also told TN TV that Payne was dead when paramedics arrived at 5pm local time, adding: “Our job was to get there quickly, give medical attention and try to revive him, but his Injuries were incompatible with life.”
