Donald Trump's Pittsburgh Rally: Steelworkers, Explosives and Arnold Palmer

Donald Trump attacked his rival Vice President Kamala Harris, courted support from steel workers and appeared to make surprise remarks about late golf legend Arnold Palmer at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday to rally support in the critical swing state.

Pennsylvania is one of the crucial swing states that both candidates want to secure in their respective presidential races. According to a summary of national polls by FiveThirtyEight, Harris and Trump were neck and neck in the Keystone State on Sunday, less than three weeks before Election Day.

The rally came after Trump was criticized for rambling speeches and a series of canceled appearances, although Trump supporters have largely dismissed those concerns.

Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait interrupted Trump during an event on Tuesday as he was talking about wars, with the interviewer saying the question was about tariffs. Trump also canceled an NRA event planned for next week in Georgia, which the organization said was due to a scheduling conflict.

Trump shocks audience with 'shitty VP' remark

The former president criticized Harris, whom he described as “radical left.”

“You have to tell Kamala Harris that you’ve had enough, that you just can’t take it anymore,” the former president said.

“We can’t stand you, you’re the worst vice president. You are the worst vice president. Kamala, you're fired, get the hell out of here, you're fired, get out of here.”

Recommendations from steelworkers

Trump also enlisted the support of steelworkers, several of whom joined him on stage, including Richard Tikey, vice president of US Steelworkers 1557.

“Today I am honored to receive the support of three local union leaders representing U.S. Steel,” Trump announced during the rally. Polls have shown Trump enjoys strong support among working-class voters.

Not all steelworkers unions have endorsed Trump, as the United Steelworkers endorsed Harris in July.

Anecdote by Arnold Palmer

During the rally, Trump appeared to suggest that golf legend Arnold Palmer was well-endowed.

Trump said the late golfer, who died in 2016, was “a pure man” and “when he showered with other pros, they came out of there and said, 'Oh my God, this is unbelievable.'”

Trump emphasized that he “had to say it,” but out of respect for the “highly sophisticated” women in the crowd, he refrained from saying anything more explicit.

While attendees laughed at the remarks, they were met with a mix of confusion and criticism on social media.

Trump says he'll watch the Steelers

Before the rally, Trump announced he would attend a Pittsburgh Steelers football game, but appeared to mix up the date.

In an audio interview, Trump said: “As you know, I'm going to Pennsylvania.”

“And then I'm going to make a big stop, a big rally, and then I'm actually going to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers play football tonight against, I think, the New York Jets.”

However, the Steelers did not play that night, as Harris' campaign team pointed out on the Kamala HQ social media account.

The Steelers' game against the Jets was scheduled to take place the following evening.

Fox switches from Trump rally to Harris coverage

Fox News interrupted coverage of Trump's rally at an event Harris was holding in Atlanta.

A clip about the switch shared by Harris' campaign claimed that the outlet had switched to “Vice President Harris' much larger rally,” although the post did not include attendance figures for either campaign event.

Newsweek The Trump campaign emailed the Trump campaign for comment outside of regular working hours on Sunday.
