Inter Miami CF joins the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ squad following MLS Supporters' Shield 2024 success

Inter Miami CF is the second-to-last club to secure a spot new FIFA Club World Cup™ after winning the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield, confirming that they are the best team in the entire 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) regular season. Inter Miami qualifies as the host country representative team due to the club's outstanding and consistent 34-game season in which it secured the title with two MLS games remaining. Inter Miami will also open the tournament as host team and play the opening game of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup™ in their hometown of Miami. Inter Miami, led by FIFA World Cup™ winner Lionel Messi, broke the all-time MLS record for most points in a single season this year and finished its 2024 season with 74 points, recording 22 wins and eight draws , while there were only four point defeats, from February to October.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the news during a fan and team celebration following Inter Miami's final MLS regular-season game against New England Revolution at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday (local time).

“We all know how much Miami loves soccer and how Inter Miami is supported by all of Florida and beyond for its exciting brand of soccer,” the FIFA President said. “Congratulations on your wonderful success in the 2024 Supporters' Shield. You have shown that you are consistently the best club on the field in the United States. “That is why I am proud to announce that, as one of the best clubs in the world, you are deserving participants in the new 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, representing the United States as the host club.”

Before La Familia and many passionate fans of the club, the FIFA President also confirmed that the club's global showpiece will begin in the Magic City next year. “We look forward to you hosting the opening game in Miami on Sunday, June 15, 2025,” Infantino added. “It is sure to be a major celebration of global club football, with the tournament featuring the 32 best clubs in the world and providing a new opportunity for clubs, players, coaches and fans alike to bring their stories to the world.”

With 32 participating clubs from around the world, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is the most comprehensive and competitive global club competition, offering the best clubs from Africa, Asia, Central and North America and Oceania the opportunity to compete against the top clubs from Europe and South America.
