Above average temperatures and dry weather will persist this week

SUNDAY

Today will be another beautiful day with highs in the 70s. We expect clear skies and sunshine, so don't forget your sunglasses!

Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s.

The Orionid meteor shower Highlights tonight! Between midnight and dawn, look southeast to spot the bright meteors streaking across the sky. With clear nights forecast, visibility conditions are ideal. Remember to avoid light pollution to get the best view.

Don't forget the 80,000-year-old comet that will appear in the western sky after sunset by the end of the month!

THE WEEK IS COMING

We will end October with calm weather. Our next front arrives late Wednesday into Thursday. It will stay dry, but it will cool us down a bit in the second half of the week.

Highs are generally in the upper 60s and 70s.

Low temperatures will warm into the 40s and some low 50s.

AUTUMN BURNING SEASON

The fall fire season runs from October 15th to November 30th. Never burn on warm, dry, windy days and check local fire regulations in your area. If you must burn outdoors, never leave your fire unattended. Remember that about 90% of forest fires are caused by humans!

FALL LEAVES UPDATE

We're nearing the end of October, which means the peak of fall foliage has arrived or is about to arrive! The Greenbrier and areas west of the Blue Ridge will experience moderate to high cover of fall colors this weekend.

Elsewhere, subtle touches of color are slowly added. Peak fall color is expected to occur in the next 1-2 weeks. Now that Virginia's Blue Ridge Parkway has reopened, you can do a little peeking through the leaves!
