Renan Ferreira breaks his silence in a social media statement after brutal knockout loss to Francis Ngannou: 'We will be back'

Renan Ferreira is in good spirits after his recent MMA loss.

The 6-foot-2 Brazilian knockout artist was backed by many and pulled off a major upset before taking on Francis Ngannou in the main event of PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants on Saturday night.

However, he was quickly knocked down and brutally beaten by a series of ground punches from the former UFC heavyweight champion, who dedicated the victory to his late son.

Fans feared the worst when footage emerged from inside the cage showing Ferreira firing 15 unanswered shots before going limp – but he has allayed their concerns with a surprisingly cheerful social media statement.

Renan Ferreira breaks his silence after Francis Ngannou's defeat

On Sunday, Ferreira shared a video of him sitting in a bed and speaking directly to the camera on his Instagram Story with the caption: “Haha we're back, thank you all for the love.”

“What’s wrong guys, Renan Problema here, broken,” Ferreira said with a laugh in Portuguese. “Yesterday wasn't a good day at work, but I'm very happy with our commitment and everything we did.

“I always had it in my head that I couldn't lose against myself because I wasn't dedicated or uncompromising, but thank God my conscience is clear.

“I worked there a lot, when I got there I was very happy and ready for the fight, but my opponent was better and he made a move that I couldn't defend. It was a powerful ground and a very strong punch, but that's it, life goes on.

“We will be back in a few days and thank you all for all the love and support.”

Now, at 34, Ferreira faces the difficult task of rebuilding his career.

Going into his fight with Ngannou, he was on an impressive four-fight winning streak in which he defeated all of his opponents, won two world titles and won a million dollars.

It appears that Ferreira will be back in the PFL's smart cage sometime in 2025.

Francis Ngannou received praise from Jon Jones for his performance

Ngannou spent 1,000 days away from MMA before making a triumphant return to the sport that made him famous.

The 38-year-old overcame tough defeats in boxing and struggled with the shocking death of his 15-month-old son Kobe, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Despite everything, Ngannou looked flawless as he defeated Ferreira within one round.

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, with whom he has not always agreed, could do nothing but praise the Cameroonian for his performance.

“What an amazing job Francis did tonight,” Jones wrote on social media.

“Showed a complete MMA match. Great kicks, great takedowns. It feels good to see him shine.

“Wow, congratulations champ, I see you.”

However, his act of kindness only lasted a few moments as he made a thinly veiled threat in response to a fan who claimed Ngannou was “smoking him out.”

“Sure,” he replied. “Everyone beats me up until they get into me.”
